Irina Birulya was born in 1944 in St. Petersburg. Having graduated with honor from St. Petersburg Theater Academy, majoring in Stage Design, Irina Birulya designed sets for more than 100 performances in Russia and abroad and participated in various festivals.
Since 1970, she has been a member of the Russian Union of Artists and in 1992 joined the International Artists Federation at UNESCO.


Irina Birulya has taken part in more than 300 exhibitions. She has also presented 40 personal displays throughout the world from Russia to the USA, becoming the first Russian artist to exhibit in Indonesia at the personal request of President Suharto (1991). Among her numerous awards are the Grand Prix at the exhibition competition "The window onto The Netherlands" (1997) and "Danco's Hart" for humanism in art (2005). Since 2001, Irina Birulya has been a member of the Worldwide St. Petersburg Club.
